Un-junk the trunk
Tips to keep things tidy
With kids, maintaining a clean car can seem impossible (and please, just avoid looking in the cushion cracks, you’ll only feel defeated.) But there are a few things that can be done to keep the family car tidy and eliminate unnecessary clutter.
Individual Craft Loom Trash Cans: Designate a trash can for each kid. Place a Ziploc® brand storage bag into a craft loom and store it in the door or cup holder. Make it a routine that each child empty their own trash can every time you stop at a rest stop or gas station.
Kid friendly car snacks
Yummy Fruit: When preparing fruit snacks, keep in mind the amount of waste left behind. Try to stay away from bananas, whole oranges, or anything that leaves skin behind. Instead, package up individual servings of grapes, apple slices, orange slices or blueberries in Ziploc® brand snack bags.
Healthy Veggies: Cherry tomatoes, mini carrots, sliced green peppers and cucumber slices are always healthy options.
Fun and Crunchy Snacks: To save money, purchase snacks in full size containers. Then make your own single-serving portions that aren’t so supersized in Ziploc® brand snack bags. Pretzels, crackers, granola and whole grain cereal are big hits!
Powerful Proteins: Nuts, Hard boiled eggs, pumpkin seeds, string cheese, and squeeze yogurt are full of protein and make perfect travel snacks. If bringing along perishable food, make sure to include an ice pack (or, try the tip below).
Don’t Forget The Drinks: Water bottles, juice boxes. Bonus: Freeze the bottles and boxes before your car trip and use them to help keep any perishables cool!
Kid emergency kit
When traveling, there’s bound to be a few accidents or emergencies. Prepare ahead of time by putting together Kid Emergency Kits for the car. Use several Ziploc® brand bags to store items needed for life on the go. Label and place everything in a large rectangle Ziploc® container.
First Aid Bag: Band-aids, first aid ointment, wound cleanser, gauze pads.
Potty Training Bag: Wipes, extra undies, extra outfit, extra diapers or pull ups.
Extra supplies: Hand sanitizer, tissues, lotion, lip balm, sunscreen, OFF!® mosquito repellent, trash bag, paper bag.
