Copycat Chicken Nuggets with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce

When lunchtime rolls around, we’re all faced with the decision to either eat another boring sandwich at our desks or to sit in the drive-through line wasting precious time. Neither sound very appetizing, but with a few minutes of easy prep, you could be enjoying your favorite chicken nuggets right at your desk! So, skip the traffic, grab a book, and enjoy a delicious meal without having to get into your car.


    For the chicken nuggets:

    chicken breast, cut into 2-inch cubes

    cup dill pickle juice
  • ¼
    cup buttermilk
  • ½
    cup peanut oil
  • 1

    large egg, beaten
  • ½
    cup all-purpose flour
  • ½
    tbsp confectioners sugar
  • ½
    tsp salt
  • ½
    tsp ground black pepper
  • For the honey mustard sauce:

  • 2

    tbsp Dijon mustard
  • tbsp honey


  • 1 In a Medium Square Ziploc® container, combine chicken, pickle juice, and buttermilk. Seal and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. 
  • 2 When ready to cook, heat oil over high heat in a large skillet until it reaches 350°F.

    Drain buttermilk mixture from the chicken and add egg. Close the container and shake until chicken is coated. In a gallon-size Ziploc® brand bag, combine flour, sugar, salt, and pepper. Shake to combine. Add chicken to the flour mixture, seal bag, and shake until chicken is coated.

  • 4 Carefully place chicken in the hot oil, making sure that the pieces do not touch each other. Allow to cook for 2 minutes, then flip the chicken and continue cooking for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until golden. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  • 5 While the chicken cools, stir mustard and honey together until combined. Store in a Extra Small Square Ziploc® container for dipping.
  • 6 Place nuggets in a Medium Square Ziploc® container with the dipping sauce and store in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, remove the top of the container and the dipping sauce and microwave nuggets for 45 seconds (or until warm).


Cooked nuggets can be frozen and reheated in a 400°F oven for 15 minutes (or microwaved for 4 minutes).
