Creative DIY Piggy Bank Ideas

April 26, 2017

Show kids that saving money can be fun with a creative alternative to a traditional piggy bank. With a little imagination, a Ziploc® brand container is more than a container, it’s a “cash creature.” Simply cut a money slot into the lid and decorate. Keep coins organized and easy to access when it’s time to cash in.

Follow these steps to make a bunny that would rather snack on cash than carrots.

Materials

Directions

  • 1 Use a craft knife to cut a money slot into the lid of a Ziploc® brand Twist ‘n Loc® container.
  • 2

Add ears to the lid. Cut two bunny ears out of pink felt and two smaller, similar shapes out of white felt. Make a ½ inch (1 cm), vertical cut in the bottom of the pink ears and glue the white felt above the cut. Bend the bottom tabs in opposite directions and glue to the lid as pictured.

  • 3

Add a face to the base of the container. Cut eyes, a nose and a mouth out of felt and glue onto the container.

    TIP

When kids are ready to release their riches, the lid on the Ziploc® brand Twist ‘n Loc® container easily twists off like a jar.

SAFETY TIP

Leave the cutting of the coin slot to the grown-ups, and be sure to keep all sharp tools out of kids’ reach.

Spiral a pink pipe cleaner around a pencil, remove the pencil and thread the end of the pipe cleaner through the hole in the container. Bend the end of the pipe cleaner back toward the inside of the container and glue in place.
