Embrace the element of surprise
When getting dressed for a holiday party, I like to make sure I always incorporate a bit of surprise. In this case, the swooping back neckline of my dress adds a touch of originality. Because of this eye-catching openness, I don’t even need a necklace. Little details like a different cut of fabric or a pop of color can really add some extra oomph to your outfit. Accessories should complement not compete
Just because I am foregoing a necklace doesn’t mean I won’t wear any bling. Instead, I like to bring the focus to my face with these large, dangly chandelier earrings! Focus on subtle details if you have a large accent piece or busy pattern. Otherwise, sometimes too much is too much—you don’t want your outfit to compete with itself. Bold is beautiful
Time for my favorite part… bright red lipstick! I typically keep my makeup very simple, but lately I’ve been in love with a statement lip, especially in bold red. Red is perfect for the holidays, and it adds a pop of color to any outfit. A bright, bold lipstick captures attention (in a good way!) and adds a classy finishing touch to your holiday ensemble. Footwear with flair
Don’t forget the shoes! I went with a bright pink pair to bring out the fun colors of my dress. Boots, flats and close-toed heels also look great in the winter months, and they’ll keep your feet nice and toasty. Just make sure whatever pair you choose for the event is comfortable—aching feet is kind of a party pooper, and you have a holiday to celebrate! Footwear with flair
