4 Ways to Have Fun With the Neighbors

July 01, 2014

It’s good to know your neighbors, especially if you need an egg for a recipe or someone to watch your house while you’re on vacation. So get to know them this summer! The more you band together, the more you’ll be able to control the summer craziness (aka find a last-minute sitter next time yours cancels).

Lemonade social

Nothing says summer like a classic neighborhood lemonade stand. Make it a project for everyone: Kids can get involved by making invites, preparing the lemonade, and helping to bake and bag the sweets. Of course, if that all happens, then the adults can kick back with a drink and a cookie, and really get to know each other.

Hit the ice cream bar

If it’s been a long, hot day, you may just want to hit the bar—the ice cream bar, that is. Make it easy on yourself by calling on your neighbors. Have some folks bring cones, while others can bring different ice cream flavors or toppings. Ziploc® containers are perfect for displaying fun toppings. There will be plenty of time to mingle amongst your neighbors between mouthfuls...if you pace yourself

Fiesta pitch-in party

It doesn't have to be Tuesday to enjoy tacos! Host a fiesta pitch-in party any night of the week. Have each guest bring an item to create a delicious, self-serve taco bar. Fill Ziploc® containers with toppings like diced tomatoes, shredded cheese and fresh-made guacamole. Salsas and dips can serve double duty as taco toppings and as accompaniments to portioned out Ziploc® snack bags of tortilla chips.

Neighborhood drive-ins

Drive-ins are great, but also pretty hard to find. So just make your own with an outdoor neighborhood movie event. All you need is a white sheet, a projector (try renting one from your local library) and a fun family movie. Invite your neighbors and let them spread out and get comfy with picnic blankets or chairs (way better than cars). For extra funsies, set up a snack and beverage bar so everyone can grab goodies before the movie starts.
